What each statistic means
The mean (average) is the sum of all values divided by how many there are. The median is the middle value when the numbers are sorted — with an even count it's the average of the two middle values. The mode is the value that appears most often; if several values tie, they're all shown, and if no value repeats there is no mode.
Range is the difference between the largest and smallest value, while sum, count, minimum and maximum describe the set at a glance. Standard deviation measures how spread out the numbers are: the population version divides by the count (n), and the sample version divides by n − 1, which is the right choice when your numbers are a sample drawn from a larger group.
This tool is handy for students checking homework, teachers grading, and anyone summarising a set of measurements, prices or scores.
