About this color picker
An image color picker (or eyedropper) lets you sample the precise color of any
point in a picture. That's handy for matching a brand color from a logo, pulling a shade out of a
photo for your CSS, or building a palette from artwork or a screenshot.
This tool reads each pixel directly in your browser, so the color
you see is the exact color stored in the image. Alongside the pixel you click, it downsamples the
picture and groups similar colors together to surface the dominant palette — the
handful of colors that define the image's overall look.
HSL and RGB are rounded to whole numbers for clean, copy-ready output. Very large images are scaled
to a sensible working size so the page stays fast — the colors themselves are preserved.
🔒
Private by design. Your image is decoded and read entirely inside your browser. It is never uploaded and we never see it — close the tab and it's gone.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I pick a color from my image?▼
Add an image, then hover over it — a zoomed magnifier follows your cursor so you can aim precisely. Click any pixel to lock in its exact color and read its HEX, RGB and HSL values.
What is the dominant palette?▼
It's the handful of colors that define your image's overall look. The tool groups similar colors together and surfaces the most common ones, so you can build a palette from a photo, logo or screenshot. Click any swatch to copy its hex.
What image formats can I use?▼
JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF and BMP all work. Drag and drop a file, click to browse, or paste one straight from your clipboard with Ctrl/Cmd + V.
Is there a file size limit?▼
Yes, images up to 40 MB are supported. Very large pictures are automatically scaled to a sensible working size so the page stays fast — the colors themselves are preserved exactly.
Does it remember the colors I pick?▼
Your last several picks are kept in a Recent picks row for the session, so you can click to copy or re-select them. They're cleared when you remove the image or close the tab.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?▼
No. Your image is decoded and read entirely inside your browser. It is never uploaded and we never see it — close the tab and it's gone.
