About the Image to Text tool

This tool reads the words in an image and turns them into text you can actually use — copy it, edit it, search it, or save it. It's perfect for lifting a quote off a screenshot, capturing the details on a receipt or business card, or getting the text out of a scanned page without typing it all again. Everything happens right here in your browser, so your picture never leaves your device.

  • Crop tightly around the text and keep the image straight for the cleanest read.
  • Sharp, well-lit, high-contrast images work far better than blurry or dim ones.
  • Choose the matching language so accents and special letters come through correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this image-to-text (OCR) tool do?
It looks at a picture — a photo, a screenshot, a scanned page — and pulls out the words as real, selectable text you can copy, edit, or save. It's handy for grabbing text off a screenshot, a receipt, a slide, or a book page without retyping it.
Which image formats can I use?
JPG, PNG, WEBP, and most common screenshot and photo formats. You can drag a file in, click to browse, or paste an image copied to your clipboard. Clear, straight, high-contrast images give the best results.
How accurate is the text recognition?
On sharp, well-lit printed text it's very good. Accuracy drops on blurry, tilted, low-contrast, or busy images, so it's worth a quick proofread. For the cleanest results, crop tight to the text, keep the image straight, and make sure the words are in focus.
Can it read handwriting?
It's built for printed and typed text, so neat, consistent handwriting sometimes works but casual or cursive writing usually doesn't come through reliably. For handwriting, expect to fix up the result by hand.
What languages does it support?
English is selected by default, and you can also choose French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, or Dutch. Pick the language that matches the words in your image so the letters and accents are read correctly.
Is my image kept private?
Yes. The whole thing runs inside your browser on your own device — your image is never uploaded and we never see it. The first time you read text there's a short one-time setup, then everything happens locally.
