How it works

Pick protect or unlock, add your PDF, and you're done — no sign-up, no upload.

1

Add your PDF

Drop in the file you want to lock or unlock. It stays on your device.

2

Set the password

Choose a new password to protect it, or type the current one to unlock it.

3

Download the file

One tap saves your protected or unlocked PDF — encrypted right here in the browser.

🔒

Private by design. The encryption and unlocking both happen inside your browser. Your file and your password are never uploaded — we never see them.

🛡️

Real encryption, honestly. A password scrambles the file with AES — AES-256 where your PDF supports it, AES-128 otherwise. Both are strong. Keep your password somewhere safe: if you lose it, there's no way to open the file again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How strong is the password protection?
Your PDF is scrambled with real AES encryption, so without the password its contents genuinely can't be read. Choose a strong password and store it somewhere safe.
Can I remove a password I already have?
Yes. Switch to Unlock, enter the current password, and we'll save an open copy that no longer asks for one.
What if I've forgotten the password?
Then it can't be removed — that's the whole point of encryption. You need the correct password to unlock a protected PDF, and there's no way around it.
What are the reader permissions for?
They ask the PDF reader to limit things like printing, copying or editing. They're a request, not real security — many tools can ignore them, so the password is the part that actually protects your file.
Does protecting a PDF change its pages?
No. The pages, text and images stay exactly as they are — only a password and encryption are added around them.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your file and your password are never uploaded and we never see them.
