It packs real information: the first two digits are the state or union territory of registration, and the next ten characters are the business's PAN. The final character is a built-in check that helps catch mistyped numbers.

What is a GSTIN? ▼

GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) is the 15-character ID given to every business registered under India's GST. It appears on invoices and is used to file GST returns and claim input tax credit.

What does a valid GSTIN look like? ▼

It is 15 characters: a 2-digit state code, then the 10-character PAN of the business, then a registration digit, the letter Z, and a final check character — for example 27ABCDE1234F1Z0.

How does this checker decide if a GSTIN is valid? ▼

It confirms the 15-character structure and then verifies the built-in check character that GST uses to catch typos. If the structure and check character both hold, the GSTIN is well-formed. It does not look the number up in the GST portal.

Can I get the state and PAN from a GSTIN? ▼
