About Transcribe Audio to Text

This tool listens to a recording and writes down what's said, turning speech into text you can read, copy, edit and search. Use it to get a written record of a voice memo, interview, lecture, podcast, meeting or video clip — without sending your audio to anyone. It works on both audio and video files: for a video it uses the audio track and ignores the picture. Because everything runs right in your browser, nothing is uploaded and no account is needed.

  • Clearer recordings with less background noise give noticeably better results.
  • Need captions? Download the SRT or VTT file — both include timestamps for your video.
  • It all happens on your device, so longer recordings take a little longer to finish.

How it works

Three steps. No sign-up, no upload, no wait.

1

Add your audio or video

Drop in a recording — a voice memo, podcast, meeting or video clip. It stays on your device; nothing is uploaded.

2

Start the transcription

Press Transcribe. The first run takes a moment to get ready, then it turns the speech into text right on your device — with a progress bar and a Cancel button.

3

Copy or download

Read the transcript, copy it, or download it as a plain text file or as subtitles (SRT / VTT).

🔒

Private by design.Everything happens right here in your browser. Your files are never uploaded — we never see them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What audio and video files can I transcribe?
Common audio files — MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG and FLAC — and common video files like MP4, WebM and MOV. For a video, it listens to the audio track and writes out what's said. If your browser can play the file, it can almost always be transcribed.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere? Is it private?
Your file is never uploaded. Everything — decoding the audio and turning speech into text — happens right inside your browser, on your own device. There's no account, no server, and no one else ever hears your recording.
Can I get subtitles or an SRT file?
Yes. Along with the plain transcript you can download SRT and VTT subtitle files, complete with timestamps. Drop them next to your video in a player, or upload the file with your video anywhere that supports captions.
How accurate is the transcription?
It's very good on clear speech recorded with little background noise, and handles everyday accents well. Accuracy dips with heavy background noise, crosstalk, faint audio or unusual names and jargon — so a clean recording gives the best result. It's a good idea to give the text a quick read and tidy up any names or punctuation.
Why does the first time take a moment to get ready?
The very first time you use the tool it needs a short moment to get set up on your device. After that it's quicker, and everything still runs locally — your audio never leaves your browser. You can cancel at any point if you change your mind.
Does it work for languages other than English?
This tool is tuned for English speech and works best with English recordings. Other languages may not transcribe reliably, so for now stick to English audio for the best results.
