About the Video Converter

Video Converter re-encodes a single video from one container and codec to another, entirely in your browser. Reach for it to turn a MOV or MKV into a universally-playable MP4, produce an open, web-friendly WebM, or repackage a clip for a specific player. Each output uses sensible codec defaults — H.264 with AAC for MP4, MKV and MOV, and VP9 with Opus for WebM — so you only choose the format you need. It all happens on your device, with nothing uploaded. Larger files and WebM take a little longer, and you can cancel anytime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which formats can I convert between?
Drop in a common video — MP4, WEBM, MOV, MKV or AVI — and save it as MP4 (H.264/AAC), WebM (VP9/Opus), MKV (H.264/AAC) or MOV (H.264/AAC). Each output uses sensible codec defaults, so you just pick the container you need.
Which format should I choose?
Pick MP4 for the widest compatibility — it plays on almost every device and site. Choose WebM for an open, efficient format that's great for the web. MKV is a flexible container for local playback, and MOV suits Apple and QuickTime workflows.
Why is WebM slower to convert?
WebM re-encodes the video with VP9, which is more computationally heavy than H.264. Because everything runs on your own device, a WebM conversion can take noticeably longer — especially for longer clips. You can cancel at any time.
Will converting reduce the quality?
Converting re-encodes the video, which always involves some compression. The defaults are tuned to keep quality high at a reasonable file size, but re-encoding can't add back detail the original had already lost.
Is there a limit on file size or length?
It handles typical clips comfortably. Very large or very long videos take more time and memory because everything runs in your browser, so there's a size and length cap — and you can cancel any time.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your video never leaves your device — it's converted entirely in your browser, and nothing is uploaded to any server.
